This summer, I had the joy of catching up with the Baby Whisperer of Photography – Dani De La Rosa of DigitalMyst Photography. Her excitement and passion for capturing life’s most tender moments practically radiated as we talked about her business. Let’s step into her world and capture her story.

From Snuggles to Snapshots: Dani’s Story Begins

Picture a warm, playful, and emotional golden-hour evening, with cozy textures surrounding a newborn snuggled into a blanket. That’s the essence of Dani’s photography style and the energy she brought to our conversation. For 15 years, she has been preserving newborn moments, a journey that began with her desire to capture her own baby’s early days. She admits her first photos were far from perfect, but to her they were priceless.

After becoming a parent, Dani saw how quickly babies change – one moment they’re curled up in your arms, the next they’re taking their first steps. She wanted to freeze those cozy, snuggly moments for other mothers, too.

Her love for children started long before her business – babysitting from the age of 11, forming instant connections, and finding joy in making them laugh. With four children of her own, ages 14, 12, 10, and 9, it was a natural progression from photographing her own kids to launching DigitalMyst Photography. Today, she offers multiple session packages, though her heart is especially drawn to newborn photography.

A Calling, Not Just a Career

Capturing a newborn’s first days is more than a job for Dani – it’s an honor. She treasures the connection between parents, babies, and families, knowing her photos will be cherished for generations.

What began as a personal passion for documenting her own children quickly grew into a calling. Dani loves that running her own business gives her the flexibility to set her schedule, an essential for managing a busy blended family. It allows her to be fully present as a mom, volunteering at school events and field trips, then coming back to snuggle newborns and create art.

“It’s the balance I love,” she says, a balance between motherhood and meaningful work.

Crafting the Perfect Session

When you book with Dani, the experience begins with a pre-session consultation. She encourages clients to share their style preferences or even photos of the baby’s nursery so she can envision the best tones, textures, and setups. Newborn sessions are ideally scheduled within the first 10 days after birth. It’s a perfect time to capture those tiny moments like when the baby can literally fit in your hands – precious!

Dani approaches each session with warmth, patience, and artistry. She tailors every detail to the family, from calming fussy babies to coaxing giggles from shy toddlers. Parents often leave amazed that their children, who “never smile for photos,” were laughing by the end. It’s this connection that has earned her the title “Baby Whisperer.” She laughs that some parents have even invited her back for those elusive 3 a.m. swaddles!

While newborns are her specialty, Dani also offers the beloved Grow With Me package, capturing milestone sessions at three, six, nine, and twelve months. These sessions document every stage from wobbly sitting to running across the yard – and always include the whole family. For moms who are usually behind the camera, these portraits are a treasured gift.

A unique aspect of her business is the freedom she gives clients over their images. Lessons from Behind the Lens

Dani’s advice to aspiring and fellow entrepreneurs, “Don’t focus so much on being like everybody else. Focus on you, what you do, and your passion.” It’s a philosophy she lives by. Instead of following every fleeting trend, she grounds herself and focuses on what she does best – her craft and what she can control.

She knows stepping out of your comfort zone can be intimidating, but insists that growth comes from trying, learning, and embracing new experiences – even if you’re not perfect at first. “It’s like being a baby,” she says. “Babies learn by experiencing. You have to start somewhere and just get started.”

A Swift Source of Energy

When asked which character or figure she feels reflects her right now, Dani lights up. “I love Taylor Swift,” she says, noting the shared red lipstick, blonde hair, and above all, passion. Taylor’s song “…Ready for It?” resonates deeply as a photographer, a mom, a friend, and a wife. It’s the perfect jam for Dani’s “let’s do it all” approach to life and business.

To fuel that energy on challenging days, she finds motivation in knowing her work matters. It’s the enjoyment she gets from families choosing her to capture their timeless imagery. It’s an intimate relationship she curates as she preserves the most innocent days of their babies. As a mom herself, she knows all too well of the sleepless nights and barley surviving on “did I drink coffee this morning?” mindset. So…it’s beyond photos for her – it’s the story she’s telling.
