Here we are with the first quarter of 2025 already underway, and the blossoming of spring
can be seen all around us. For some, that may mean relief from the chill, while others revel in vibrant flowers sprouting to welcome the warmer days ahead. Many of us are gearing up for spring break adventures — beaches in Florida, anyone? But as we savor the season's renewal, it’s also time to celebrate fresh inspiration with a new Women in Business Highlight!
Our latest feature shines a light on April Emory, a real estate trailblazer and co-founder of Emorys Rock Realty. When I first heard about April, I did a quick search and discovered her thriving career in real estate. My interest was immediately piqued—not only is real estate one of my favorite topics, but as a fellow real estate investor, I’m always eager to learn from leaders in the industry. Once I had the opportunity to connect with April, I knew her story was one that needed to be shared.
All About April: A Journey from Passion to Real Estate Excellence
Before April Emory began her career in real estate, she spent 15 years as a makeup artist, where she learned the love of connecting with people on a personal level. Her ability to truly listen and make others feel valued formed the bedrock of her career. It was a nudge from a real estate professional that set her on an unexpected path. "You love people. The rest can be learned," they said — a piece of advice that April credits as life-changing.
"You love people. The rest can be learned."
Thirteen years ago, April dove into real estate, bringing the same warmth, care, and dedication she had mastered as a makeup artist. Fast forward to last year, April and her husband decided to take a bold leap by establishing their brokerage, Emorys Rock Realty. With a love for working with families and a knack for creating meaningful relationships, April has found her true calling in helping others find their dream homes.
The Story Behind Emorys Rock Realty
What’s in a name? For April and her husband, their brokerage's name is both a playful nod to their roots and a reflection of their unique approach. Years ago, April was initially hesitant to embrace Instagram for her real estate ventures. She recalls jokingly naming her account "April Rocks Realty" to keep it light and fun. When the time came to launch their brokerage, the name evolved into "Emorys Rock Realty," combining her family name with the lighthearted spirit that defines their business.
"We rock, and people often comment on it, which just reinforces that we’re doing something right," April shared with a smile.
Building A Legacy: Business Goals and Vision
Emorys Rock Realty stands out not just for its catchy name but also for its emphasis on relationships over transactions. April and her husband passionately believe in being part of the community and building lasting connections. "We’re not in the transaction business; we’re in the relationship business," April emphasized.
Since its start, the brokerage has quickly gained recognition for its commitment to excellence. April’s approach is simple yet powerful—focus on relationships, and the results will follow. Emorys Rock Realty recently added a commercial division to its operations, further expanding its offerings. Looking ahead, the Emorys envision their brokerage as a hub of expertise with dedicated divisions for residential and commercial real estate, as well as property management.
Words of Wisdom: April’s Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs
For women looking to break barriers and forge their paths in business, April’s advice is both practical and motivational: "Take the risk. It’s never too late to learn, work, and grow. Build relationships, and the rest will follow." You can start your business at any time and at any age. April recommends the book, The Do Over by John Acuff, as it’s a reminder that everyone is a connection or referral, even if many years later, and that you can change directions at any age.
"Take the risk. It’s never too late to learn, work, and grow. Build relationships, and the rest will follow."
April also emphasizes the importance of adaptability and lifelong learning. "Things change daily in real estate, and you have to be willing to adapt," she explained. Her ability to balance emotional investment with professional boundaries has been a critical factor in her success.
Challenges and Triumphs: Navigating as a Woman in Business
April has faced her share of challenges as a woman in the world of real estate. Despite her years of experience, she’s encountered situations where her expertise was doubted. For example, some people had assumed she didn’t know anything because of her youthful face, but she can walk in with confidence to a new construction home and provide her feedback and her observations of what needs to be updated. However, her deep knowledge and professional demeanor quickly earned respect. "I’ve learned to stand my ground and politely correct misconceptions. Knowledge is power, and it transforms how people treat you."
Social Media and Community: Tools for Connection
Though hesitant at first, April now views social media as an essential tool for authenticity and connection. Her Instagram isn’t just a platform for listings but a window into her life, featuring everything from family updates to helpful real estate tips. "People want to see the real you, not just the sales pitch," April shared.
Beyond the digital space, April and her husband actively participate in local community events and initiatives, reinforcing their commitment to making a positive impact. April has met many leads by connecting through events such as with the Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club, but in a way that is relatable and trustworthy as her approach is not to meet with people and think “this is my next lead” but build a relationship and connection with people.
The Big Picture: Motivation and Goals
For April, her family is her ultimate motivator. The legacy she and her husband are building through Emorys Rock Realty isn’t just about business—it’s about creating something their children can be proud of. "This is how we keep a roof over our heads, but it’s also about leaving a lasting impact," April explained.
Looking ahead, their goals include growing their team and solidifying Emorys Rock Realty as a beacon of excellence in the Florida real estate market.
April doesn't have just one specific person who inspires her—instead, she draws inspiration from many. Among those who inspire her most are her parents, whose love and unwavering support she remains deeply grateful for. She also admires powerhouse leaders like Lisa Moore, a fellow community advocate, and Hope Kennedy, president of the Chamber of Commerce. April finds both women to be incredible examples of individuals who are driven by both community and family values.
