Entrepreneurship is an exhilarating journey, filled with both triumphs and challenges. When you are perusing social media, many of the advertisements focus on the glamorous part of entrepreneurship and show you what you can do in X amount of time. The time specified is generally a short period that could be unrealistic for a person depending on how much time or how much funding is available to invest. The reality is that many businesses take time to build and beyond the “short period” advertised. Because let’s face it, the reality is not as flashy and that isn’t what is going to sell.
The growth of your business will depend on various factors such as your personality, the nature of your product or service, and your existing network. Regardless of whether your business takes off super-fast or one that is a bit slower pace – at some point or other, it may test your mental strength. That’s why it is imperative to maintain a good health and wellness routine, not only mentally but also physically.
When you’re feeling overwhelmed – you may question what do you do to keep yourself from going insane, especially when you already feel that way? Questions and thoughts being mulled over and over in your head that you end up feeling tired of being in your own head! I’ve been there recently with many thoughts swirling in my head and feeling mentally drained.
I work out regularly, usually weightlifting, which helps me stay physically fit. I meditate and practice mindfulness albeit a practice I’m still getting used to making a daily habit, but at least a few times a week. With that said though, the past few weeks I’ve been so consumed with overthinking about one of my ventures that I said, “I’m done thinking about it!” I finally thought that I must clear my mind because otherwise I’m driving myself crazy. This past week I’ve been doing just that and found myself needing to cut back on some activities to be able to focus on other areas and less on the business that is causing so much mental stress. My mind felt like it went on strike and needed to rest before fully engaging again.
This kind of rest isn’t about sleep (though sleep is important); it’s about taking a break from overanalyzing every detail of your business. It’s a habit I’m learning to incorporate, and I’m confident that the answers I’m looking for will eventually come with this rest.
Power of the Universe
Interestingly, over the weekend, I caught up with a friend over brunch while visiting my hometown. We discussed our life updates, both exciting and challenging. Later, we went to a farmer’s market and received a free crystal reading. The lady asked us to choose a stone that stood out to us, and she mentioned that “our energy is what would draw us to the stone.” I picked an amethyst stone that I had eyed almost immediately from walking to the table. The lady conducted her reading and explained that the amethyst stone was for the third eye chakra and intuition. She emphasized that I needed to clear my mind and trust my intuition. Well, how resonating that stone I chose was exactly what I had mentioned to my friend that I needed to start doing as well as the advice she had given me. We were both amazed in how spot on the stones we selected had deeply resonated with our current situations.
This experience reminded me that the universe often provides what we need if we remain open to it. For some, this may seem far-fetched, but for me, it was a timely reminder to trust my intuition and take a mental break.
For myself even though I have a solid physical routine and practice meditation; my mental state is being tested. I need to give myself a break to figure out my next move. I can’t say for sure when that answer will arrive, but I know I must trust my intuition and keep a clear mind to receive the answer. You may have found yourself in a similar situation of whether to do something – pursue that business, quit your job, or take a leap of faith in moving across the ocean. Many times, I find answers while driving alone (with no radio/music or podcast) or when flying and among the silence or “stillness” I find the answers. Since I don’t often drive or fly these days, I’ll need to find my next best place to receive the insights I need.
Reflect
Writing this article and reflecting on times when I have received answers has made me realize I was more in tune with my intuition than I thought. It’s a reminder that what we truly want often aligns with what happens. Now, I need to figure out if my current business path aligns with my ultimate goals. This process of reflection is ongoing, and the outcome may be shared in a future article. For now, writing this article is a little therapeutic and eye opening, and time will tell for how the plan goes.
While I’m resting my mind from mental overload; hopefully you can also take something from my experience. Perhaps you are also having “analysis overload” and feel like you’re going crazy. Take a break as you may need some rest. If you don’t have a mental routine, then I recommend incorporating whether it’s through meditation or taking a break from questioning everything. Your mind needs it.
