Krista Baker, Owner of Hire a Momma

Krista’s Background

Krista Baker’s journey involves a blessed life she shares with her husband and their two wonderful daughters. Their family dynamic has been shaped by their commitment to homeschooling and a holistic, slow-living approach. Her background includes teaching in traditional schools and a brief stint in the corporate world, which she left behind after the loss of her younger brother, which prompted a reevaluation of her priorities. Thus, she’s taken the leap into entrepreneurship, balancing the demands of family life with the challenges and rewards of running her own business.

Krista had many entrepreneurial pursuits such as a cleaning business, an eBay store, and taught in a virtual school so she could homeschool her daughters. She eventually left virtual teaching behind and focused her time on her children and building their house. During this time, she realized that contractors are not the most organized with their operations; although talented with their skills, the administration would be sporadic. Witnessing and experiencing firsthand the chaos with contractors sparked a business venture for Krista – Hire a Momma, a marketing and consulting business.

She used her expertise from her prior ventures to figure out the best way to assist companies that need help getting organized. She soon realized that her strengths and joy came from writing, marketing, and providing content strategy for companies. One of her preferred services is helping companies with little to no digital footprint get online and into the digital space such as with social media, updating their website, or Google Business.

As Krista is a busy mom herself, her goal is to provide the same opportunities to other moms as her business grows so that those moms can also work from home and spend more time with their children as well. Hence her name, Hire A Momma, she’s on a mission to hire moms and help moms carry out their dreams as well.

Clients to Hire a Momma

While Krista's roots are firmly planted locally, her scope isn't limited by geography. Her client base has organically grown through referrals, yet she remains open to serving a broader clientele. Krista's intimate knowledge of rural businesses, particularly in Oklahoma, allows her to empathize with the unique challenges faced by small business owners in establishing a digital footprint. A niche area of expertise lies in aiding businesses, especially those of the boomer generation, in adapting to the digital age. Many of these businesses, despite their offline success, lack an online presence vital for future growth and sustainability. Krista's passion lies in helping these entrepreneurs bridge the digital divide, ensuring their businesses thrive for generations to come.

As a homeschooling mom, Krista finds a special connection with fellow mothers who seek her services. This shared experience fosters a deeper understanding and synergy between client and service provider, enriching the collaborative process.

Personalized Vision

What sets Krista's business apart is her personalized approach to digital marketing. Rather than simply creating content, Krista delves deep into understanding her clients' visions, missions, values, and principles. Through questionnaires and one-on-one conversations, whether online or in person, she forges a personal connection with each client, ensuring that the content she crafts truly reflects their essence. Krista's expertise lies in curating content that authentically represents her clients across various online platforms, particularly social media. She views social media not just as a promotional tool but as a means of fostering community and connection. For example, for a landscaping company with a homestead, Krista infuses humor and authenticity into content, highlighting their daily lives beyond just business transactions.

Being rooted in Oklahoma's small-town culture, Krista understands the importance of authenticity and value-driven content. In a community that prioritizes faith and family, her clients find resonance in content that reflects these core values. By sharing their stories, beliefs, and experiences, Krista's clients attract their ideal audience, fostering meaningful connections with their customers.

On the Horizon

Krista's aspirations for her business in the upcoming year are centered around expansion and refinement. One of her primary goals is to broaden her service offerings to include video and videography services, a venture that involves hiring specialized talent to meet client demands. Additionally, she aims to bolster her team by bringing on more writers or assistants in their specialty skillset, enhancing the quality and diversity of content produced.

A major focus for Krista is transitioning towards a more managerial role within her business, where she can focus on client interactions and strategic planning. By the end of the year, she envisions herself orchestrating the business operations efficiently.

Development and Community

Krista draws inspiration for her entrepreneurial journey from various sources, primarily her tightly knit community and her commitment to continuous personal growth. She values authentic friendships and connections, both with her spouse and her network, recognizing their role in fostering personal and professional development. Immersed in a culture of perpetual learning, Krista avidly consumes self-help literature, blogs, and podcasts, perpetuating her passion for self-improvement; she fondly jokes she’s a “self-help junkie.” She also is drawn to entrepreneurship as she gets to do things her way.

Central to Krista's approach is her belief in the power of community and authenticity in business. She resonates with influencers, particularly women, who advocate for a balanced, values-driven approach to entrepreneurship. Rejecting the "hustle culture," Krista champions a softer, more sustainable approach to business, rooted in personal values and boundaries. She emphasizes the importance of setting up systems and boundaries to maintain work-life balance and avoid being overwhelmed, a strategy that has fueled her business growth while allowing her to thrive on a part-time schedule.

When asked about a business figure she admires, Krista's response reflects her diverse interests and appreciation for different perspectives. While she admires the self-knowledge and self-education ethos of a male figure like Luke Belmar (internet personality, investor, and entrepreneur), she also resonates with the content and approach of female figures like Alex Fasulo (an ecopreneur, financial freedom advocate and educator). Krista values individuals who prioritize personal growth and adaptability in their entrepreneurial journey.

Persevere

Krista's advice to aspiring and fellow entrepreneurs, centers on perseverance, self-care, and community support. She stresses the inevitability of challenges and setbacks but encourages individuals “to not give up,” believing in the eventual rewards of consistent effort. Krista underscores the importance of maintaining personal well-being alongside business pursuits, emphasizing that self-care enhances one's ability to succeed. Additionally, she advocates for seeking support from communities, whether local or online, to find encouragement and solidarity. Ultimately, Krista's guidance reflects a holistic approach to entrepreneurship, rooted in resilience, self-awareness, and the power of community.
